Herbarium Operations and Policies

Our working hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. However, since we have temporarily located to the 4th Floor of the UPR Molecular Science Research Center across from the Cupey Tren Urban station, we now require appointments to see the collections. We hope to be back on campus by mid March. For more contact information and a map to the original site of the Herbarium click here.

General Policies of Herbarium Operations

Our Herbarium policies are designed to provide a complete access to the collections as is possible, to assist visitors to the herbarium and the island, to comply with Commonwealth and Federal regulations, and to assure the preservation of specimens. See UPRRP Policies.

Loans & Exchanges

The UPRRP Herbarium actively exchanges herbarium specimens with other institutions as a means of enhancing our holdings. Because our botanical focus is plants of Puerto Rico and the Caribbean, we prefer to receive identified and labeled specimens from the West Indies. However, we do appreciate specimens from other tropical regions, and will negotiate for botanical literature.

In return, UPRRP can exchange mounted and unmounted specimens, mostly from Puerto Rico. If you are interested in starting an exchange program with the UPRRP Herbarium, contact us (axelrod.upr@gmail.com, 787-764-0000 x1-2900).
